I am originally from Philadelphia and I can attest that this restaurant serves authentic Philly cheesesteaks. The owner, Shem, learned from the best before bringing a taste of Philadelphia to Connecticut.
I had heard great things about this restaurant and finally decided to visit on my way to the casino recently. I ordered the Philly cheesesteak with extra meat and a side of small fries. The sandwich was overloaded with cheese and had a great flavor. I probably could have done without the fries, as they have been disappointing lately, but I wanted the full experience. The fries were okay, nothing special. I expected it to be crowded during lunchtime, but it was surprisingly quiet. The server was very friendly and helpful. Would I come back? Most likely, as I have tried other restaurants in the area and prefer them to eating in the overpriced casinos.
We recently moved from Baltimore to Connecticut, and as a native Philadelphian, I always look for a cheesesteak that reminds me of home. I came across Philly's on Google and decided to take our three children there for dinner. I am a bit of a cheesesteak snob and refuse to consider a sandwich from Subway as a true cheesesteak. Philly's did a great job with their steak. I was very pleased with the bread, the rib eye, and the whiz cheese. They even serve Herr's chips, which added to the authentic Philly experience. The menu names, like the Barkley and the Cobe, are reminiscent of Philly classics. There was so much food that I couldn't finish it all in one sitting, so I am looking forward to returning from Colchester for more. Consider me a fan of Philly's. And did I mention that the place was clean and the person at the register was great?
