Whilst we come here quite frequently and really enjoy the dinners, unfortunately on this occasion we were really let down by the service. We had a table booked for 20:30, and we arrived bang on time. We were told our table would be available in 5 10 mins which is absolutely fine so we waited outside. After 15 mins they apologized that the table was taking slightly longer to vacate than expected so offered us a table outside with some free olives until we could be seated at our table. Unfortunately however, 45 mins passed and we were still not given our table which we had booked in advance. We questioned why we couldn't have our table despite booking, and were informed that they could not do anything to resolve this the party who had the table were overstaying their booking slot (18:30 20:30) and the waitress did not feel she could ask the table to vacate. We feel they could have simply asked the table to politely vacate as their booking slot was finished and they needed the table, but they did not want to do this. Sadly having lost faith in ever getting our table we had to go elsewhere.
The atmosphere was lovely as always and greatly improved by excellent service and delicious food.
We ate on a Monday, when two courses cost £16 and three courses £19 without the early bird pressure, whch makes this excellent value. The £6 cocktails are also good value. The venue was very popular, but despite this service was propt, efficient and couteous. Food across our three separate choices for each course was uniformly good and some of it outstanding, but the wine was slightly disappointing for the cost. Overall though very good value.
Good food, fantastic service and charming setting. Would like to go for a music evening one day...
