Everywhere was tastefully decked in Halloween pumpkins and candles, so cosy. The rooms are beautiful and extremely clean . The food was excellent, and the staff were so friendly, they made you feel that you'd known them for years ,even our dog felt at home . Thankyou to Kate and Charlotte ,who made my birthday special, by singing Happy birthday and bringing me a cake and glass of Champagne . Thankyou to Alex who looked after us too . Finally thankyou to Kenni for opening such a fabulous place, and your hospitality . We will highly recommend you . Thankyou all again so much
The Sunday lunch at this restaurant was fantastic, offering a selection of Sunday roasts in addition to their regular daily menu. They also had vegetarian options available. The staff were very friendly and provided excellent service. They even welcomed our dog with open arms.
Very disappointing, in short because we were a large party we were asked to order in advance, which meant that no sooner had we sat down that our food arrived, not even time to get comfy. The food felt like it had been waiting around for a while, a bit dry. Also one of my daughters accidentally broke a glass and the maitre de handed her a dustpan in the middle of dinner. Not the most welcoming of pubs for food I'm afraid. The night before we ate at the Fat Lamb.
The ambiance of the restaurant was nice, but unfortunately, the food was not up to par. I ordered the mushroom soup, which was supposed to be the chef's special, but it was very watery and had too much cream. I couldn't even finish it. The main course was a dhal pie with a bland brown gravy and overcooked peas. The apple crumble for dessert was lacking in crumble and only came with a small amount of custard. Overall, the service was also lacking. It was a disappointing dining experience.
I stayed at this restaurant for one night as a pit stop on my way back from North Scotland. It was a fantastic place and I would give it 6 stars if I could. The location by the river in a quiet village was perfect. I had dinner and stayed overnight, and all the food was amazing with generous portions. The rooms were beautifully decorated and very clean. The restaurant is 700 years old and has a boutique style upstairs that is tastefully done. It is dog-friendly, with the owner's dog lounging around the bar area. I had a wonderful stay and would highly recommend this place!
