My fiancée and I moved to New York a few years ago and have always enjoyed having breakfast at Bagel Express occasionally. The owner is very nice. However, when my fiancée went to pick up two dozen bagels for our Thanksgiving gathering, she encountered a negative experience. Despite arriving early to ensure there were enough bagels, the guy behind the counter gave her a nasty look and made a sarcastic comment to another customer about "out of towners." Although my fiancée handled the situation politely, it was still hurtful. As a result, we will no longer be recommending Bagel Express.
I stopped by quickly on my way to the Port Jefferson ferry. This restaurant is amazing with delicious bagels (I tried an everything bagel with bacon, egg, and cheese) and fast service. There is plenty of indoor seating and some outdoor seating as well. The bathroom was clean too.
I had to give this restaurant a one-star rating. The bagels are incredibly sweet, especially when eaten plain. They seem to be much higher in calories than typical bagels, tasting more like a dessert than a bread. They leave a noticeable artificial sweetener aftertaste. They may resemble bagels in appearance, but they definitely do not taste like traditional bagels.
Good to great sandwiches (depending on who makes it). Sometimes different employees can make the same sandwich a 3.5/5 good or a 5/5 home run. Home fries are the best around. My issue is not the food but the flow. When you walk in you don 't really knowwhere to go, and goddam is it hard to ask during peak times. Lots of people stand around on the wrong lines and hold up thesmooth flow of business in the morning. A carpet with an arrow saying 'order here ' and a sign for 'Pick Ups ONLY ' wouldmore than fix the people flow. It does get CROWDED so if you go I would suggest wearing a mask since we 're coming up on fluseason. Honestly this place could probably franchise extremely nicely with a few adjustments.
The menus are detailed in the ingredients used and contained for each breakfast item. The services was great. They have multiple people at the counter to make sure that your order is taken. Some of the bagels are quite large, so make sure you know how muchyou can eat. Although, you can also take the extra out with you. There are seating in the diner. The seating are clean andsimple, nothing too extravagant. Check out the place when you have the chance. My club had ordered dozens of bagels from hereand they were always delicious!
